Kat Eggleston is proud and delighted to share a stage with two of her good friends and favorite performing songwriters at the Vashon Havurah on May 5, in a round-robin evening of song sharing.

Kat is well known to Vashon audiences, most recently in Vashon Repertory Theatre’s “Kissing the Joy as it Flies, The Wit and Wisdom of Brian Doyle” at Vashon Center for the Arts, where she wrote and performed the music for the play.

Northwest performing songwriter Tracy Spring is known for her rich, compelling vocals and versatile guitar playing. She writes full spectrum 4-minute novels, poetry and music all rolled into one. A seasoned performer, she has played in folk venues and festivals throughout North America and Australia, often combining her musical life with social justice work. Combining folk, blues and jazz influences she displays a style all her own.

Janis Carper has an ability to craft lyrics and melodies that reach into the heart and mind. Her solid guitar playing supports songs that grip the listener—from the somber and reflective to the light and humorous. Carper's singing style reflects influences like Bonnie Raitt, Rosanne Cash, and Lucinda Williams. Carper's compact disc No Place to Land was chosen as one of the top twelve independent recordings by Nashville's The Performing Songwriter magazine. In addition to solo performances, Janis has built a reputation as a fine backup vocalist and guitarist on stage and at local recording studios.

Kat, Tracy, and Janis have known each other for decades, and their lives and careers have often spun together over the years. Janis and Tracy co-wrote the song “Of This World” with Becca Christel, recorded by Peter, Paul and Mary on their final album, In These Times. Kat and Janis were both 1990 finalists in the Sing Out! sponsored New Folk songwriter competition at the Kerrville Folk Festival in Texas, and both sang backup with David Bromberg on his Northwest tour.

Janis Carper toured throughout the United States with the Missouri Repertory Theatre as guitarist in Peter Glazers musical "Woody Guthrie's American Song,” a piece recently produced by Vashon Repertory Theatre. Kat worked on the same show at

Chicago’s Briar Street Theatre in the 1990s, and Vashon audiences who saw Kat’s play “The Cyclone Line” may recall that the play was directly inspired by “American Song” and the music of Woody Guthrie. www.TracySpring.com
