On The Wing
Outstanding In Its Field Gallery
September 6-28
Sat & Sun, Noon-5pm
First Saturday Free Concert, 6-8pm

On the Wing explores the beauty of birds, September 6 - 28, 2025, at the Outstanding In Its Field Gallery. Fourteen Vashon artists examine our avian friends from the sky to the branch. The show includes watercolors, ceramics, etchings, jewelry, sculpture, oils, baskets, and pastels. A portion of the proceeds benefits the Vashon Bird Alliance. The Gallery is located at 10524 S.W. 188th St, just west of Sawbones, and will be open Saturdays and Sundays, Noon – 5 pm, and weekdays by appointment by calling 206.419.0199.

On the Wing presents ceramics by Tara Brenno, multi-media sculptures from Charlotte Masi; Raku-fired birds from Chuck Bonsteel, Julia Gombert’s fused glass jewelry; soft pastels by Janeen Bramwell; drawings and oils from Margi Amstrup, acrylic paintings by Jude Boardman, Sue Hardy’s copper plate intaglio etchings, leather crow sculptures from William Cleaver, watercolors from Jeanne Marie Thomas, baskets by Barbara Gustafson; Lynn McClain’s monoprints, art cards from Janis McElroy; and bas-relief bronze sculpture and etched glass from White Hart Art.

The First Saturday celebration, September 6, from 5 pm to 8 pm, will include the chance to meet the artists, enjoy fresh-baked treats, and a free performance by Gus Reeves in the gallery’s party pasture. Attendees are welcome to bring blankets or camp chairs.

The Vashon Bird Alliance is a nonprofit, all-volunteer organization that was founded in 1989. It encompasses two connected islands, Vashon and Maury. It was formerly called the Vashon-Maury Island Audubon Society. Their mission is to enjoy, learn about, and preserve birds and the diverse natural habitats of Vashon Island and beyond.

Outstanding In Its Field Gallery is open May – October each year with monthly themed exhibits featuring Vashon Island Artists almost exclusively. Additional shows planned for 2025 include “Into the Woods: Natural and Mythical” in October, and the VIVA Art Tour in December.
