ALLI LANPHEAR VINEYARD & WINERY

Alli Lanphear Vineyard & Winery is a small family farm, vineyard and winery. They produce wine exclusively from the grapes they grow using organic practices in Puget Sound AVA. They have four different grapes on the property, including three whites: chardonnay, sauvignon blanc and siegerrebe. Pinot noir is the lone red grape, and it has been tricky to grow and ripen, but the warmer summer seasons helped the grapes ripen enough for wine-making. LEARN MORE

ANDREW WILL WINERY
SILVER LEVEL SPONSOR OF VASHON EVENTS

Andrew Will Winery brings in their fruit from Ciel du Cheval, Champoux, and May’s Discovery, and Two Blondes vineyards. Since the first vintage in 1989 they have tried to improve their artisanal skills as winemakers as well as to conform to the simple ideas they started with. The most important of these has been the primacy of the vineyard. They make about 4500 cases of wine a year. In addition to the blends they make from Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Cabernet Franc, they also make Sangiovese from fruit grown at Ciel du Cheval. The history of the Sangiovese is as full as the other wines they have made but for now it lies in the shadow of the other varieties. Andrew Will used to make varietal bottlings but by 2003 they had taken a vow to make as fine a wine as they could through blending the most important varieties they grow in Washington.

DRAGON’S HEAD CIDER
BRONZE LEVEL SPONSOR OF VASHON EVENTS

At Dragon’s Head Cider, we believe in producing high quality hard ciders with a traditional approach, which means you will never find us using apple juice concentrate, over sweetening our ciders, or adding other flavors to our ciders. We love the story that apples and pears can tell all by themselves, and so we keep it simple. Press high quality apples and pears, ferment the juice, put it in a bottle. We believe one of the keys to creating great cider is to have control over the entire process. For this reason, we do the pressing, fermentation, blending and bottling all right here on the farm. Wes and Laura Cherry moved to Vashon Island in 2010 with the dream of planting an orchard and starting a cidery. Today their orchard is full of cider apple and perry pear trees, and their award winning ciders are sold in Washington and Oregon, as well as direct to consumer in their tasting room, on their web site, and through their cider club. 18201 107th Ave SW, Vashon, WA 98070.

PALOUSE WINERY
GOLD LEVEL SPONSOR OF VASHON EVENTS

George & Linda Kirkish are the heart of Palouse Winery. After running an airline, a contracting business, raising four children, and living life to the fullest on Vashon Island, George & Linda took their drive for excellence and art in a new direction. In the fall of 2003, they set off into the wilds of the wine industry by buying half a ton of Cabernet Franc grapes from Portteus Vineyard, located high on the hillside above Yakima Valley in Rattlesnake Hills. That first barrel ignited a passion for wine making that couldn’t be stamped out. With expert guidance & regular classes at UC Davis’s oenology program, Palouse evolved further in its philosophy, along with its grape purchases. In early 2005 the winery expanded into the present day location on Vashon Island’s north end. Palouse produces 1,400 cases of handcrafted wine a year, each vintage more stunning than the last. 12431 Vashon Hwy SW, Vashon, WA. LEARN MORE

POLLARD VINEYARD & WINERY

Pollard Vineyard is a ten acre site located in the Upper Yakima Valley of Washington State. With a southwest facing slope the vineyard sits at 1150 feet. The soil is silt-loam and the annual precipitation is 8 inches. The growing season is approximately 190 days. Distinguishing features of the vineyard also include a focus on clonal selection and a denser than average planting. Pollard vineyard has 2400 plants per acre in contrast to the typical vineyard of 1700 plants. This experimental planting approach follows the path of the leading fruit orchards in the region that have demonstrated that with cutting edge techniques one can maximize production on less acreage while maintaining superior fruit quality. Half of the vineyard is planted in cabernet franc (Robin’s favorite grape variety) French clones 327 and 214; the remaining half is in cabernet sauvignon clones 91 and 4 and merlot clones 181 and 348. Pollard wine is available for shipping or pickup at their Vashon facility. LEARN MORE

VASHON WINERY

Vashon Winery is a tiny “garagiste” winery producing less than 600 cases of wine annually. Garagiste is a moniker used in Bordeaux, France to describe garage-size wineries who make exceptional wines without owning their own vineyards. They produce about an equal mix of their standard stable of wines: Semillon, Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, and their Reserve Red (a blended wine of red grapes), all from grapes purchased in vineyards located in eastern Washington. Their wines are destined to age, to improve in bottle, where the wine undergoes a remarkable transformation: new flavors are created, tannins soften, and the wine flavors deepen. Vashon Winery wines show well with ten years of age on them, though they are often best after between five and seven years. LEARN MORE
