7:00 PM
Vashon hip-hop artist Fontaine to premiere cyberpunk rap album The Surface at The Rock Island Pizza on April 11, 2026.
VASHON, Wash. — 18-year-old Vashon rapper, beatmaker, and instrumentalist Fontaine will premiere his sci-fi hip-hop concept album The Surface in a live show at The Rock Island Pizza on Saturday, April 11 at 7 PM. There is no cover for the event. The concert will feature Fontaine performing the 50-minute album in its entirety.
The Surface unfolds over a single day in the life of an unnamed clone, a subterranean operative tasked with assassinating dissidents in cyberspace at the command of an all-powerful AI known as The Deadline. But when a familiar face appears in the digital battlefield, his artificial paradise begins to fracture, awakening a dangerous longing for the world above: the Surface.
Fontaine grew up on Vashon Island. Since 2021, he has combined hard-hitting rap, long-form storytelling, and immersive, experimental beats and soundscapes to explore questions of meaning, loss, and identity. His worlds draw inspiration from authors such as William Gibson, Fyodor Dostoevsky, Philip K. Dick, and George Orwell, while his music incorporates a wide range of influences ranging from minimalist classical music to 70s soul to musique concrete. In addition to writing and producing rap music, Fontaine writes fiction and plays bass in jazz and rock bands.
Islander Danny Powers brought his extensive recording and production expertise to the project and will be on the soundboard for the April 11 event.
