Vashon Repertory Theatre’s Incubator Series Comes Home

Just as people were emerging from COVID in 2022, Vashon Repertory Theatre (VRT) launched Plays In A Snap play readings at the Island’s popular venue, SnapDragon Bakery & Café – outdoors. Since then, VRT has introduced over a dozen new works by Northwest and Island playwrights to enthusiastic audiences.

For 2026, VRT returns Plays In A Snap to SnapDragon at 5pm Saturday, May 2nd and Sunday May 3rd. Admission to the show is Pay What You Will at the door, and SnapDragon’s popular food and libations will be available for purchase. Performances are indoors this year, so arriving early to the Black Cat Cabaret will assure a good seat.

This year’s Plays In A Snap evenings will include ten brand new short plays performed by such Island favorites as Sierra Tinhoff, Michael Wishkoski, Linda Nygaard, Leonard Su, Kaycie Alanis, Jennifer Potter, Brian Palermo, Terra Schaller, Ashlyn Shea, and Mik Kuhlman. Directing the readings are Brooke Osment, Elizabeth Klob, Charlotte Tiencken, Meg Thompson, Tara Morgan, Ashlyn Shea, and Chris Boscia.

The list of plays, curated by Northwest Playwrights Alliance’s Bryan Willis, is a mix of new and seasoned area authors:

How the Wind Howls by Parker Curtiss-Knox

LA 8am by Mark Harvey Levine

American Gothic by Mia Tierney

Sheet Cakes of Destiny by Brendan Healy

Nona Who Swallowed a Bird by Eva Suter

Second Wind by Dan Erickson

Evolution of Chaos by Bryan Willis

Kevin’s Dog by Lisa Peretti

The Harp At Winter’s Gate by Meg Thompson

And a special delivery (yet to be named) by Tony and Pulitzer prize winning playwright David Auburn.

The finale of every reading is an audience feedback session. Playwrights contribute to the Incubator Series because their material gets exposure, but also because they gain valuable audience insight on the spot to help improve their work. Audiences enjoy the experience for the entertainment, and because there’s joy in being part of the theatre development process.

VRTs Producing Artist Director Charlotte Tiencken puts it this way, “Plays In A Snap, our Incubator Series, serves Vashon Rep’s mission of bringing meaningful stories to the stage that are relevant to our time and place. New works bring new life to the theatrical community and the community at large.”
