Ron Weinstein is a beloved fixture of Seattle’s jazz scene, known for his expressive piano and organ work that blends classic jazz with a touch of punk attitude. Originally from Great Neck, New York, he arrived in Haight-Ashbury in 1968 and later settled in Seattle in 1987, where he quickly became a staple in the city’s vibrant blues and jazz clubs.
Weinstein has played with genre-bending groups like Crack Sabbath and Combo Craig, and his current trio features top-tier local talent on bass and drums. He held a long-standing residency at Vito’s lounge until a fire in 2022 shuttered the venue, but he continues to perform regularly at spots like the Sea Monster Lounge and Owl ‘N Thistle.
Known for his rhythmic flair and improvisational chops, Weinstein’s style has been described as having “a little bit of Monk in him”. At 75, he remains a tireless performer, gigging multiple nights a week and hosting jam sessions from his South Seattle home. His musical journey—from ballroom gigs in San Francisco to intimate jazz nights in Seattle—reflects a lifelong devotion to the craft.
