Drama Dock Theatre Company proudly announces its upcoming production of RENT, Jonathan Larson’s groundbreaking Pulitzer Prize and Tony Award-winning musical, running August 19–23, 2026 at Vashon Center for the Arts.
More than three decades after its Broadway debut, RENT remains one of the most influential and beloved musicals of a generation. Set in New York City’s East Village, the show follows a vibrant community of young artists and friends navigating love, identity, creativity, and survival during the height of the HIV/AIDS crisis. Featuring iconic songs including “Seasons of Love,” “La Vie Bohème,” and “Take Me or Leave Me,” RENT continues to resonate deeply with audiences through its themes of connection, resilience, and living fully in the present moment.
“RENT is about community, chosen family, and finding hope and joy in the face of uncertainty,” said Drama Dock Artistic Director Kelly Godell. “It’s a powerful piece of musical theatre that still feels urgent and deeply human. We’re thrilled to bring this extraordinary production to Vashon audiences as part of Drama Dock’s 50th anniversary season.”
Drama Dock’s production will feature a cast of local and regional performers alongside a live band, bringing Larson’s unforgettable rock score to life on the Vashon Center for the Arts stage. Founded in 1976, Drama Dock Theatre Company has spent nearly 50 years creating accessible, community-driven theatre experiences on Vashon Island. The company’s 50th anniversary season celebrates five decades of artistic storytelling, collaboration, and cultural enrichment for island audiences and artists alike.
