Brooke Gassiot: Tidal Bodies

"Tidal Bodies" explores the ways time, memory, and transformation move through the body. Through painting and cyanotype, Brooke Gassiot traces the shifting stages of a woman's life—from puberty, pregnancy, and birth to menopause, breast cancer, aging, and healing. The body becomes both archive and landscape, holding the visible and invisible marks of change, resilience, and lived experience.

Brooke combines cyanotype exposures made from hand-cut figurative forms with acrylic and oil painting. Deep Prussian blue evokes water, emotion, and the unseen currents connecting our inner and outer worlds, while layers of flesh tones and gestural brushwork move between representation and abstraction.

Developed over two years with support from a 4Culture materials grant, "Tidal Bodies" brings together large-scale paintings and cyanotypes. Though rooted in Gassiot's own experience, the work invites viewers to recognize their own stories of transformation, creating space for reflection, empathy, and connection.
