The Vashon Island Cemetery District invites the community to participate in a special Obon Heritage Walking Tour, an opportunity to reflect on the lives, contributions, and lasting legacy of Vashon's Japanese immigrant families.
Held during the Obon season—a time of remembrance and honoring ancestors—the guided walking tour will share the stories of individuals and families who helped shape the island's history.
Participants will also discover the remarkable trees throughout the cemetery, whose enduring presence offers a living connection between generations and serves as a reminder of the deep roots of community, memory, and resilience.
The tour offers a meaningful opportunity to learn about local history, celebrate cultural heritage, and experience the cemetery as a place of remembrance, reflection, and education.
